Movie Club Against Depression Part 2
Too many to pick a favorite...i tend to go with suspense, thrillers, scary...but my mom and i watched Anchorman with will Ferrell the other night. My stomach hurt from laughing...laughter is the medicine!
ok this caught my eye...I want to reiterate these movies you have already mentioned for being positive experiences for me and my life:
The Big Lebowski
The Blues Brothers
The Breakfast Club
Bruce Almighty
The Bucket List
Dogma
Elf
Harold and Maude
High Fidelity and ditto on Cusack, YUM
K-PAX
Labyrinth
Love Actually
Office Space
Pay It Forward
Practical Magic
Scrooged
Spaceballs
Serenity - Nathan Fillion as Malcolm Reynolds, YUM
Under the Tuscan Sun
When Harry Met Sallly
And to add a few of my own:
21
27 Dresses
America's Sweethearts
The Banger Sisters
The Big Chill
Bridget Jones movies
The Butcher's Wife
A Christmas Story
Contact
Defending Your Life
Eat Pray Love
Family Man
Field of Dreams
Grand Canyon
Groundhog Day
It Could Happen to You
Legally Blonde movies
Liar Liar
Life or Something Like It
Made in Heaven
MAMMA MIA!! ("mega" uplifts me)
Men who Stare at Goats
Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium
The Muse
Postcards from the Edge
Raising Arizona
The Secret of My Success
Vibes (very old, Jeff Goldblum & Cyndi Lauper)
While You Were Sleeping
I have found that watching movies is often a better experience than watching prime time (plus no annoying ads). They have been cathartic in helping me feel better. I love movies that are positive, uplifting, funny, and movies that provide good "what if?" type fantasy material.
there'll probably be more

Yup I'm agreed with the Disney films. my fave one is "beauty and the beast".."enchanted", "aladdin" are also good too.
I know this isnt a film but UK based people will know "Father Ted" and "Fawlty Towers" (John Cleese was in "Fawlty Towers"). Stand up comedy on tv or at a live gig is always good.
travel programmes on tv, soap operas like "coronation street", "eastenders"..
programmes with hot guys in them like "true blood"
finding nemo! love that film, toy story, a bugs life.. a lot of the cgi films are really good now. ellen de generes on the tv-she always makes me laugh. jonathan ross used to make me laugh on UK tv but hes not as funny anymore :/

The Big Lebowski fave of all time!
Caddyshack
True Grit by the Coen Bros.---actually made me cry for the first time in years, but it was a healthy wholesome sadness for natural death (end of a cycle)... and the beautiful character portrayal of Rooster Cogburn by Mr. Jeff Bridges...

Foghorn Leghorn is the best, like every male teacher I ever had in middle, high school. Full of good intentions, very sure of himself, but an utter moron.

Not necessarily happy films but when I am hopelessly down I watch these films to know someone out there relates:
Prozac Nation (I am in love with Christina Ricci. Her role in this film I've always felt is similar to her real life experience) it is certainly very close to mine). There are also some very good quotes, this being my favorite
"Ruby: Lizzy, Im not crying because you're mean. I just cant imagine
how incredibly painful it must be to be you."
Leaving Las Vegas: Nicholas Cage is fired from his job for being an alcoholic, receives a large redundancy cheque. His boss ask's him what he plans to do and he replies something along the lines of - "I think I'll go to Las Vegas and drink myself to death".. That is what the movie is about, an extremely realistic portrait of a drunk. Great movie...
and when I need a good laugh these always work:
The Anchorman (you stay classy Santiago)
Bad Santa (he won't say F.uckStick in front of the children will he?)
School for Scoundrels
Blades of Glory
and there is also a movie called "Felon"
It shows how one innocent action of a man protecting his family, has him thrown into jail, forced to join Nazi gangs and choose to rot in jail or fight for his freedom. I have watched this over and over and I always cry during the same part at the end. I recommend this to any and everybody.
Have a good day everyone
Thank-You

"28 Days" is the best recovery movie ever- watching them succeed in sobriety while making me laugh is just what I need sometimes. I'd recommend it to anyone in recovery or otherwise.
