Weight lifting

Man one thing that is terrific about getting sober is how much I have the energy and time to get back in the gym.

I'm keto and IF'ing but the weight lifting plan that I learned years ago is paying me dividends on this 40yo body.

If any of you fellas are interested I can send you the link. Guy is out of the midwest. When I was healthy and in my late 20s I got super into his system - it's terrific and you really get results, if getting strong and looking good is your thing.

100 here man..

Weightlifting/bodybuilding has been reason numero uno that I've been able to stay on the sober path. Not to disparage or trivialize the other aspects of recovery but it's been everything--spiritual, physical and intellectual--and the biochemical and physiological payoffs have been tremendous. I'm able to manage stress, stay positive, stay focused and feel confident about myself for the first time in years. Yeah, borderline addiction but a *healthy* one. Last time I was doing this was in my 20's...not sayin' how long ago that was (although pretty similar in age to ya LG )

Definitely IM me the info...always looking for a legit changeup to my routine.

Thx man!

T.

The gym is my refuge - good luck with your training. Deadlifts are God's way of letting you know he loves you

Link please.

I treated myself to a pair of Bonobos premium jeans yesterday. 30” slim. I haven’t worn pants that size since I was in college.

Now to get bigger...l

So this is the guy https://forum.bodybuilding.com/showt...hp?t=121353501

I honestly can't say enough. Basic premise is that you have a 4 day split
Lift
Press
Legs
Pull

On each day you have 1/2 core movements:
Lift - Deadlift
Press - Bench
Legs- Squat
Pull - Pullups and Military press

For these core movements you are working to improve your One Rep Max

Then you have a whole series of supplemental movements each day too. He runs down the set/rep schemes.

It's terrific b/c you truly see progress, there's math involved and you get both bigger and stronger. Can't rep it enough.

PS - I think you should support this trainer guy, but I did buy the PDF book and we are family here so let me know if you are hard up and want to take a look.

I don't like the whole math-tracking thing, I tend to do things intuitively. But this is still great, I'll use the broad strokes and not get all anal about keeping records and goals 'n stuff.

Exactly the plan I was looking for, based on the compound lifts. Need to find a trainer to get started, I want to be sure my form is aces. It's all about form when I start lifting heavier and doing the big 4.

Is this system suitable only for physically fit people? I would like to, but I have no preparation.

No but some knowledge/experience with certain lifts would kinda be necessary. Have you lifted much in the gym before?

Btw I see your join date - welcome to SR. This place saved my life.
