Alcohol and porn - the saddest of partners

The amount of money I have wasted on porn (yes even in these days of free content everywhere) while either in a drunken stupor or in that painful state of recovery, is so depressing.

I don't come here to count those dollars and bug myself out.

I just want to acknowledge that the darkness that would surround me in my deep boozing states were so often accompanied by an addiction to porn.

And it's not that I haven't had a bountiful sex life with women, it's just that the sad, malevolent, depressed self that would emerge after a drunk or the hyper, impetuous self that would emerge while drunk and how much that self loved porn is something I want to identify and separate from as I separate from booze these days.

I'm curious how/why you would pay for porn nowadays. I understand if you don't want to answer.

It's just more content, more choice, HD, etc. A bit like having a premium movie subscription instead of free to air.

Actually no - it's these live chat rooms. They are pretty remarkable. And horrible. But also so addictive.

Oh, porn. It was the first vice that popped up after I quit drinking. Before sugar, even. It's something I still have to be mindful of.

It's basically the same thing - so addictive and twisted.

Yeah...after my divorce years ago I was into cars, gambling, cocaine, strippers, booze, what do ya got? For a couple of months(by couple' I mean 6+mo) and that got VERY expensive! I think I went through $66k in 6 months and that's not including my bills/living expenses! Just on partying! Freaking nuts!

I went through compulsive porn during my last binge and in early sobriety. Part of the post-sobriety compulsion was hypomania. One of the symptoms of mania and hypomania is hyper and risky sex. So is gambling, careless and compulsive overspending, and substance use. Since I caught it and am treating it, porn is down to a dull roar, which I'm OK with.

I have nothing against masturbation and porn as long as it's not compulsive. But it was.

Back in the day I was somewhat addicted to phone hookup lines. However for some reason I was never charged until I changed my phone number, the I gave it up.

My therapist has been in longtime recovery from sex and love addiction, his drug use was secondary to that. I'm glad I have him as a resource.

Find myself so less interested in porn than I am when I'm drinking. Don't even feel like thinking about exactly why that is. But I'm glad I'm not wasting money on those insane chat girls and just as glad I'm not on pornhub in the middle of the night.

Sober is as sober does.

I had a bigger problem with porn than I did alcohol. Up at 5 every day to surf and burn CDs. Up until midnight when my ex wasn't around. Used to lock the office and surf porn all afternoon rather than work.

Finally lost the house, the business AND the ex.

I've been sober from porn almost 8 years and sober from alcohol 4 years.
