Remembering SoosieQ

Its one thing to write about folks who find recovery and live reasonably long lives...

it's another to write about those who don't make it...gone too soon.

I met SoosieQ pretty soon after I got here myself.
We spoke a lot about everything.

Soos was a livewire, a real firecracker, a woman with a lust for life, but also a crippling self doubt.

Her fondest wish was to get and stay sober....

Quote:
I would like to think that I will not always be an emotional and financial wreck, making up for years of doing damage. I would like to think that, at some point, all the mounds of self-focus and so-called "improvement" can be released into something more mature and balanced. Say, a healthy relationship or a job with some sort of meaning, helping others.
But, for one reason or another, she found herself being drawn back into a life of bad decisions and dubious playmates.

It never really occurred to me then that, as I was staying sober, she might not.

Eventually Soos posted here less and less, her updates growing bleaker and bleaker, her emails to me unanswered, and then one day we got word here she'd died. Still not sure if it was alcohol or drugs or both.

She was barely 30.

I wish we could have seen what a 40 yo or 50 yo Soos would have made of herself, and the world around her.

She had the stuff in her to make a difference - if only she'd believed that.

RIP Soos.

D

Of all sad words of tongue or pen,
The saddest are these: It might have been.

There, but for the grace of God, go I.

I am sorry she lost the battle, as too many do.

I am glad to hear she tried, I just wish she had tried more, she died too young.

RIP SoosieQ.

Thanks for posting this, Dee. I remember Soosie being so supportive of others. I hope she has found peace in her life.

This makes me so sad, I hope someone who is struggling will read this and decide to stick with sobriety.
