3 days in, need advice

I am three days off cannabis and CBD capsules and feel very strange.
Crazy dreams when sleeping and a weird spacey out of body feeling the rest of the time.
It didn’t seem like I was doing that much cannabis but apparently it is more powerful than I realized.
Also off alcohol for quite a while too.
It’s like I am seeing and feeling myself and my life in someone else’s body
which is kind of scary.
Have today off so am going to an exercise class and try to keep busy with chores.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this?
Thanks for reading.

Hi melski and welcome to the forum.
I'm not surprised to hear of your symptoms. I, myself, have not experienced those exact feelings, but everyone is different. You are only 3 days in so withdrawal is going to be pretty uncomfortable for a while and may get worse.
I had pretty bad anxiety with tachycardia.
The good news is it will get better. Just stick it out.
More good new; you only have to do this once.
Keep posting, let us know how you are doing.
Hang in there!

Hey Melski, welcome to the forum. Congratulations on the three days sober time. It's very daunting to get throught those first days, weeks and sometimes months. I don't know how many day 1's I had before I finally was able to stick with the appointments I made with myself.

The crazy dreams...yeah I had them. After almost 14 months sober, I still dream a lot more than I used to when I was smoking everyday. Dreams in itself are a bit crazy, but the really weird and nasty ones subsided fairly quickly.

Regarding the sensation of living in the body of someone else...I didn't have those exact feelings but I was very aware of everything in general. A form of over-sensitivity or something like that, hard to describe.

If you refrain from smoking you will feel pretty normal earlier than you might expect. I really hope you can do this!

Thanks lynnmarie and flyingdutchman
Hearing your experiences is super helpful and gives me hope that these things will pass for me too.
Looking forward to getting through this and making a new way for myself

Hi Melski

I also had the crazy dreams, and a sensation that I wasn't quite in phase with everything around me - a sort of lightheadiness..

It got better progressively day by day and was gone by a week or two.

Congrats on day 3 - you're doing this!

Slowly but surely

Thanks Dee,
Day 4 has begun.
Slept through until the alarm this morning which is a first in a long while.
Had some dreams but nothing scary.
I should say it’s also day 4 of being off any substances and while it’s super early I am struck with how different I feel.
Got lots of exercise and hydration yesterday and the plan is for that today too.
The challenge is the start of the work week so thank you for all the support.
Really appreciate this forum and everyone here.
Melski

Sounds like you are detoxing nicely. Sleeping and dreaming. That's awesome. Took me weeks to remember dreams.
Also sounds like you've got a good plan too. Exercise is so important in many ways. Speeds up detox (through sweating) and elevates mood.
The tricky part is when the cravings hit. Do you have a plan for that?
It's so easy to say...Oh, just this one time to get me through. But it'll just snowball to all day, every day.
The thing that I use when craving strikes is playing the tape. Thinking about how that snowball forms. I also think about the benefits of not using. And there are SO many! Have you read the sticky on Reasons Why Life is Better without Weed? That's a great post.

Congrats on 4 days! Keep it up!

Exercize really helped me too, can't go wrong with that. I'm really glad to hear you are sleeping well already. Although I had crazy dreams, I never had any trouble sleeping. Consider yourself lucky on that one because you wouldn't be the first to relapse because of sleeping problems. There's more good news on the horizon. Your sleep will improve big time after you've quit for some time.

I'm with Lynnmarie about creating coping strategies while you do not have cravings. It's hard to think straight when they hit. It's hard to keep that long term perspective after you've been bombarded with thoughts about smoking all day. Hopefully you will never experience this, but it's always sensible to have thought about it before it happens.

And congratulations of day 4!

Thanks

Have not had cravings per se but my triggers tend to be stress.
Work stress in particular and any situation where I feel like I am somehow “less than”.
that self esteem thing is what sent me to substances in the first place.
It is so pervasive, sneaky and lurking in the background.
I get to work from home a lot which is a huge help but the stress builds up big time all day.
Thursdays are in-office where I see people face to face and by the time I leave I am so wound up and I may need a different plan.
Need to make sure I make time for exercise and set better emotional boundaries.
Thanks for the link, will check it out.
Happy Sup

It's day six now, no alcohol, no cannabis.
The withdrawal symptoms are slowly going away and I am sleeping better than ever.
Lots of dreams but am not remembering them very much.
Monday is here and back to work.
Staying grounded and not reactive to stress is my challenge today.
Hope everyone has a great day.

One week and wow

So today marks one full week without substances, no cannabis, no alcohol.
Maybe it was the pink cloud phase but am experiencing major anxiety today about everything...
Started at 3 AM this morning and is hanging on through the work day.
Just want to run and hide.
Nothing really unusual going on just the normal daily drill.
No cravings thank goodness. Not sure what to do to ease the stress but thinking I may try and knock off work early and curl up with a book or a funny movie and my dog.
How is everyone doing today?

It took me about two weeks to stop feeling 'squirrelly' melski - hope this next week is better for you

Hi Melski, glad to hear the anxiety is under control again. It takes some time to find your new equilibrium but you'll get there. Every day brings you a step closer to it.
