Stinking thinking !
As a craving crosses my mind, I punish myself with a quick repulsive negative thought.
Like thinking of putting my head in an outhouse chute... whew!
Lets share here how you may also stop a craving with just a thought.
I also use thoughts of vomiting, being in jail, or in a burning car crash, running over someone, owing money paying huge fines, etc. etc.
These quickly change my craving to repulsion.
Later I also REWARD myself for thinking SOBER thoughts.
Thoughts of HAPPINESS, HEALTH, AND WEALTH, etc.
All specific thoughts of what being sober allows.
Including being in shape, eating and sleeping well, having wonderful relationships, goals that I'm accomplishing, etc., etc.
As I PUNISH CRAVINGS . . . and . . . REWARD SOBER THOUGHTS!
I let it be. I don't punish or reward a craving. I acknowledge it's a craving or thought/image/memory/impression of drinking, and then I go on about my business of living my life.
There are times when I 'play the tape' to remind myself what is likely to happen if I do drink. It's a sort of mishmash of all the times I drank and things went to hell.
Hallucinations and withdrawal. I always think of those if I am in awkward situations around alcohol. It's a lot better these days sober and calm. Other improvements are coming but sobriety is number one.
It is a miracle. I'm so glad I have a second chance at life now.

I just try to recognize it for what it is and lean on my friends, God, aa and prayer.
