Help!

I'm almost 5 months sober, but my sleeping patterns have gone from bad to worse.
I'm home after a tiring day at work having had only 2 hours sleep last night. I'm running on empty.
My doc refuses to prescribe anything. I'm at my wits end.
I just can't go on like this much longer.

Weird that your doctor will not help ;-(

You could try Chamomille and/or Valerian in the evenning before bedtime. Exercise also if you can.

You might want to look at switching doctors. Poor sleep habits can be a big trigger for relapse. Be careful not to be prescribed a narcotic, however. This can be equally as dangerous. I have taken Trazadone for almost two years. Seems to work well for me.
Good luck.

Are there any underlying reasons why your Dr won't prescribe anything. I agree bad sleep can be a trigger.

My doc is against sleeping meds altogether, for anyone. He said that it can cause long bad term effects on sleeping patterns.
Reasons? Yes, I'm stressed at work. I'm almost 5 months sober and working on steps 4 and 5 which are raising long forgotten memories to the surface, I'm just wired.
It's almost 2.30 here and I've got to get up at 5. This is ridiculous.

In that case I also think you maybe need another Dr. There's many non invasive sleep medications available. Over here there's some mild sleep meds available over the counter, but I don't know about the UK though. I know this doesn't help you tonight though.

There's also some pretty good advice on the stickys at the top of this forum with some good ideas. But I do hope you get some sleep soon, I know it's no fun.

I take sleeping pills and have for some time...if I dont I wont sleep. I have never abused them and my doctor is more concerned that I am well and sleep than the meds. I too take trazadone and also imovane. I would see another doctor...you must get rest. good luck to you and hope you can get some sleep tonight

Switch doctors, research herbal and OTC meds, I have a ton of info but can't post on here. PM me if you wish.

Valerian herbal fluid extract is natures Valium.
Can get tablets/capsules but fluid extract is fasting working, it doesn't taste good so may need a juice chaser but after time you get used to the taste.
With Valerian if you wake it gives you the ability to go back to sleep again.
It may take a few weeks to work fully.
And yes I have a diploma in herbal studies & have used Valerian myself at times.
If you are on any medication check with your doctor first.
