I sent a frantic email to my shrink about my depressed state of mind and he referred me to the local mental health center, as they have a grief program. I sent them an email asking if they could help me but haven't heard back yet. I think it's geared more toward mental health, but hope they have something from which I can benefit.

Do you have an appointment with your psychiatrist? Are you getting out and seeing people?

I had my appt with the shrink last Tuesday. He referred me to the mental health center programs cause they're free, and he is not. He's a good P doc but he's not cheap.

I have insurance (medicare part B) but he doesn't take medicare for payment. I want to see what the mental health center offers.

I make sure I get out at least once a day. I walk Billie and talk to people we meet on our walks. I see my brother once a day when he comes by after work. I've always been a bit of a recluse but I do have friends and family I see regularly.

If you don't hear from that one particular group, least, I wonder if you could find something on your own. I did a quick google for "grief support groups" and found a fair amount of info for my area. Might be the same for you.

It makes sense that, just as AA and Alanon are non-professional and free, there would be groups for grief that would be the same...

My father attended group grief therapy sessions, they just requested a donation if you could afford one. He made a lot of good friends and I know it lifted his spirits.

I called the place and spoke to someone with that program. She said it would be appropriate for me so I'm going to go tomorrow.

There are support groups here specifically for pet loss.
My dog was more of a person than a pet.

I hope you feel better tomorrow.
Keep us posted.

I went out to the mental health center and registered for the program. A lady gave me a tour of the facility. I'm kind of disappointed cause they have no specific programs for grief.

I may go back. But I think it's more geared to mental health.

Today I got a sympathy card from my vet. Brought back the hard reality that Jack is gone for good.

He who learns must suffer. And even in our sleep pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God.

I was remembering what my vet said to me when I saw her for the first time after Mr. Ned died. She said "Dogs are tough, courageous, amazing animals. They will work SO HARD to do what you want, even if it's to stay alive after they're just worn out and ready to go. Bear that in mind when you're mourning him."

She is a wise and insightful woman, and I have done my best to remember this.

Your vet is a smart lady. Jack was ready to go, it was his time for release. I know I did the right thing but dammit, he took my heart with him when he died.

It's raining today. The heavens are crying because I cannot.
