Least, I’m sorry you lost, Jack. It’s a very hard thing to go through. I had to euthanize my dog last Saturday. I still find myself crying throughout the day. The grief and pain are just unbearable. When did it start getting better for you?

Bailey, I'm so sorry you lost your dog.

It took me about three months before I could think of him without that sharp pang of grief.

Bailey - Please know that we all understand exactly how you're feeling. We had to put our Jackpot (Lab) to sleep Dec. 10. I can say that after a few wks. I stopped crying as frequently - and as least put it - the 'sharp pang of grief' does ease up after a while. Wish we could give you a big, comforting hug.

I was just thinking this morning that I don't want feeling better to mean I forget Jackpot. I know I never could, but already the spot where his bed was doesn't upset me every time I walk past it. I guess our babies wouldn't want us to stay in deep grief for too long - they were all about making us happy.

Bailey, I am sorry you lost your dog too. I know the pain that hits our heart and there is no way to relieve it, it take time and some serious grieving before we begin to feel better.

Suki - So true that life would be less without them - that's lovely.

Least - I keep finding Jackpot's fur, no matter how much I clean. 2 mos. & 5 days since we said goodbye. I'm sorry you're feeling sad.

Oh Suki, that is so true. My parents encouraged us to have pets and we learned empathy at an early age.

Hev, I was thinking of you and your Jackpot today. For all the sorrow when they die, I am glad to have shared my life with them.

It's hard to let them go, but we are just keeping the promise we made to them for a good life and a peaceful end with no suffering.

Hugs to you Least, and to you Hev. They know they were loved, they depended on us to give them a gentle exit when the time came to end their pain.

The pain isn't raw anymore, it's a dull ache that pervades everything. I just miss my soulmate.

I still am having a hard time real with it but. I’m starting to remember her when she was healthy rather than the last few months of her life. Watching her deteriorate took a toll on me.

We were just talking about those last months with Jackpot - how we had no other choice but to say good-bye. He tried so hard to be his old self & it was upsetting to him, I'm sure. I appreciate that we can share our sadness.

A couple days before putting down Bailey she came and sat down right in front of me and stared at me. I know her thought process was, “what’s going on with me? I’m tired of it.”. The guilt I feel for putting her down is overwhelming at times.

Honeypig's vet told her that dogs will do just about anything for our love, even hang on beyond their limit. I felt guilty and awful for ending Jack's struggle, but I know it was the right thing, and the kind thing to do.

Please don't feel guilty. You did the right thing for her to end her struggle.
