Grateful I surrendered finally (again)
I am grateful that I’m sober today and for the last 7 weeks. After 10 years of sobriety (honestly 6 years sober and 4 years dry-not working the program), I took the final stage of relapse- the first drink. The last 4 1/2 years of active alcoholism has been a real struggle. I had those countless vain attempts to prove I could drink like other people. I questioned if I was a Real Alcoholic, or if I had been cured.
The crazy thing is, that I made ungodly sums of money the last 4 years, but I now recognize that my disease in it’s cunning way, used that and my Ego, to keep me down the destructive path of self destruction of the 1st drink. In the meantime, my wife and I are separated about 2 months because I’ve created lots more wreckage due to my dishonesty and selfishness.
With all that said, I am still so grateful that I surrendered to my disease once again. Going to meetings, 53 so far in last 7 weeks, reconnecting with my sponsor from 1 1/2 years ago, working the steps, turning my will over to God, has allowed me to gain some peace that I once again am happy to say that I AM a Real Alcoholic.
Peace to All on this forum.
Thank You
