I am grateful for natural highs
This year I experienced my first sober New Years celebration since started drinking 30 years ago.
Feeling good about that and coming up to 1 year anniversary in a few weeks. Marijuana became legal here 1/1. I decided I would try it again (did it some in college but not since then. Alcohol was always my drug of choice). I thought it might be a good alternative since quitting drinking. But I did not enjoy it as expected. I think that anytime we seek something outside ourselves to achieve happiness is not healthy, whether it's alcohol, drugs, obsessive sex, shopping, whatever. I'm trying to remember that happiness comes from our own internal state of mind and how we choose to be. I am grateful for our minds ability to experience so many natural highs when we are open and living in the moment, from my runners high to watching a beautiful sunset, to meditation, musical etc.
