Second chances ....
There are at least two times I could have died from drinking. I was at a bar in college and had one too many. I found myself lost driving home in an unfamiliar area winding up on some back road. I woke up in my car on the side of the road with paramedics attending to me, vomit all over the place. I was taken home in the back of a police car. Though the situation was clear, I was not arrested for DUI. I was not ticketed. The two police officers simply showed compassion and made sure I was ok and got home safe. Other than the trouble I had finding my car and going to work the next day, nothing more came of this incident. Why I was spared (or another life was spared) and why I did not get a DUI, I will never understand. I also don't understand why that was not a rock bottom and I continued to drink. I drank for another 30 years in varying degrees until one morning I woke up on vacation in a beautiful resort after partying the night before, and felt so low that I decided at that moment I had just had enough. That was almost a year ago. I have never turned back. I have never felt this happy and free before!
