I see a lot of memes circulating around on social media declaring how "bad" 2016 was, calling it the "worst year ever". For me it was the best year ever. Why? Because it was another year sober, it marked my fourth sober birthday, my fifth sober Christmas and another whole year of contented sobriety. Every person I hear claim how terrible the year was I remind myself "to have the serenity to accept the things I cannot change and change the things I can", I thank my higher power that no matter how bad things may really get, only I choose whether to keep my sobriety or not.
