Very thankful
It is Christmas day, and I just spent my first Christmas sober. There have been a lot of firsts. First barbecue, first wedding (my own), first bachelor party (also my own). Next week will be six months sober! In the beginning I felt like skipping social events, but decided to plow through. At the beginning they felt awkward, but as time has past they've gotten better and I feel I can genuinely enjoy myself.
I am really grateful that I can be a sober father to my firstborn, who is 2 months old. I’m aware that I’m happier than I’ve been in a long time.
At times I miss alcohol and have moments when I really wish I could have a glass of wine, but I always know they’ll pass.
