Animals We Love Grats part 3
NX has arrived at WCV and has been placed into the Center's "waiting room" -- a small, dark, quiet room. She will be allowed to de-stress there before her physical examination.
Dr. Dave reported that NX was standing and made some “eagle grunts” when he peeked in at her.

3:49 p.m. - Dr. Dave McRuer and Dr. Adam Naylor have started NX’s physical exam. They will do a complete exam — feeling for any broken bones, soft tissue injuries, or other abnormalities. They will also take a blood sample to run in the Center’s in-house lead testing machine. Dr. Dave will be removing the transmitter so that it doesn’t get in the way of any examinations or diagnostics.
All physical exams start with an eye check:
4:05 p.m. - Dr. Dave found injuries to NX’s right carpus [wrist], wing, and eye. She tested “low” for lead, meaning that lead toxicity is not an issue.

Ed Clark, WCV:
We just finished NX's exam, and the results are very encouraging. No major fractures that were detected, though she has not been x-rayed yet. No lead in her blood...which is GREAT news. Some damage to the lens on her right eye, but nothing that should not heal.
She has a wound on the wrist of her right wing, with some torn skin....very consistent with "road rash"... but again, nothing that should not heal. Dr. Dave put in a couple of staples to hold the skin together over the bone. Because she has a very full crop, we cannot anesthetize her until she digests some of that, so it is possible we'll still find a fracture or something else that is not obvious.
We removed the transmitter, and I can tell you there is absolutely no indication that there was any irritation or abrasion. It was working normally and not affecting her at all!
NX weighed in at 4.035 kg. When she was released in August 2011, she was 4.18 kg — which means she was doing just fine finding her food out in the wild!

Grateful for my two watchdoggies... tho they occasionally bark at imaginary intruders... They sure are loud tho, and I'd think they'd deter any bad guys' thoughts of ill will....

Grateful for my babies and my wonderful animal loving boyfriend This morning our wolfhound was taking up the lower half of his side of the bed - so he was balled up in the top quarter of the bed XD
I love and am grateful for my beautiful ginger cat. This cat is beyond amazing, I can't believe he'd spent his life until we got him at 6 months stuck in a shelter. He was hilarious when we got him home - he didn't walk anywhere, just kneaded the ground and moved that way.

December 3 Morning Update:
Ed Clark, WCV:
Good morning all---before you get excited, I'm only here to post a single update on NX, for those of you who are not following the WCV website or Facebook pages. NX was ALIVE this morning--always a good way to start any day. She had deficated profusely, due to the fluids she was given last evening. This is also a good thing because it shows that her "systems" are working properly, and she is digesting her food. Later today, Dr. Dave and team will anesthetize her and take the x-rays we were unable to take yesterday, when she arrived (due to her having had a full crop). That will give us a very good idea of the extent of the injuries to her right wrist, and will let us know if there are other skeletal issues. After that, we'll have a better idea of her prognosis. Stay tuned. We'll update things as news is available. (Read this to suggest that calling, emailing, or otherwise asking for new news will not hasten the process.)

I don't know why I can't embed you tube videos anymore. I used to be able to.

(((Suki))) - when I read you can't embed videos any more, I thought "OMG, the animal grats thread will never be the same!" I hope whatever it is straightens itself out.
BTW, too funny about the cats playing "patty-cake"...sound like a conversation Mots and Elvis might have, but there would be less playing and more smacking, hissing and swatting at each other.
Hugs and prayers,
Amy

((Jasper)) is gorgeous (so is the scenery!!!) but gotta agree with ((Newby)) - he looks a lot like my Mots or Patches when they are thinking "can you let me DOWN now? Aren't we done?" I would get clawed if I tried to put a necklace on them, I think. Great picture!
Hugs and prayers,
Amy

I always get a kick out of the different color variations of cats and dogs.
Tonight I'm grateful for these dogs waiting for bedtime, time to snuggle. Bedtime is so peaceful from their presence.
