A New Thread of Gratitude!
The beautiful weather changed today, at about 4:27 pm. It was autumn this morning, now its winter.
Oh well, I am grateful for making it to a new meeting group where I found a great comfort level. I realized that one of the key members of the group is a long-time friend of the family and we had lunch afterwards, his treat.
Perhaps I've found my sponsor?

Went to a meeting this afternoon and intend to go to another tomorrow. I'm grateful for the groups we have around here, though there aren't as many as there used to be. There aren't as many people around here as there used to be either, I guess that would explain it.

Hey guys! I got a ride to the meeting with a prospective sponsor, the guy I mentioned in a previous post, though I didn't feel it was quite the right time to ask him - yet.
I went to a different group tonight, my home group which meets every Saturday evening. When I say home, it is right across the street, so that's about as home as it can get unless it were conducted right here in the house.
I am grateful for having an enormous amount of supportive resources nearby!
Thanks for your concern!

PS - Rusty, I like the avatar, it's very appropriate for this time of year!

Grateful that I scored my own "Big Book" at the meeting last night!
I've had 2 copies over the last 28 years (the first when I was 24 from my initial experience with AA at the Aquarius group in Dallas) which got lost somewhere down the line, just like everything else, tangible and intangible, up to and including my sanity at times. But this one will be like my sword "Bible" and will be with me at meetings and on my bedstand next to me every night. It will be a working copy with notes scribbled in the margins, phone numbers in the back and all.
And when it's my time to graduate to the next realm, I want that "Big Book" near me and looking at least as worn and used as I will when that time comes.

Thought for the day ...
Grateful for the lead at our last open-speaker meeting. His story told of how he grew up in a practicing family of bar owners and that he had never known any other life-style except that of drinking, smoking, gambling and carousing, ever even existed until he was in his mid-twenties. Now in his mid-fifties, he's been in "recovery" ever since.
My question is, how can a person be in "recovery" when they had never known "covery" to begin with?
I know, "recovery" is a term for ongoing sobriety, but I thought I would mention the irony of it in this case.
It was an enlightening talk, but I had a gut feeling that it was "canned", especially when talking to him afterwards. Oh, and the guy is a licensed counselor now.
It's all good!

Last night's open speaker meeting featured, no speaker. There was a different chair-person (her first time) who handled things very smoothly. Being that it was an "open" meeting, there were some nursing students and alanon attendees and when we all voted to open up for general discussion, about 2 minutes of complete silence (it seemed like 20) followed. Then some of the regulars, who never stay quiet for too long, started up and we eventually ran over our allotted time. It turned out to be one of the most rewarding Saturday meetings (my staple group) that I've ever experienced there.
Grateful for our Saturday "open speaker" meeting group.
