Got two good dog walks in today. A short one with all three and a longer one with just Jack. Jack likes having time alone with me. He doesn't have to share my attention on our walks. It's all for him... and he loves it. Was nice enough today to let the dogs enjoy their yard. They get excited and roll on their backs just for the sheer joy of it. Lying in the sun feels so good to them. I feel good just from seeing them feeling good.

i am sooo looking forward to warm sunny days for a good dog-walk too. I hope we get some spring this year...it seems it's either 40-or 80 degrees.

grateful for my loving happy pets who can teach me a thing or two about how to live and forgive.

Grateful to have a furry daughter to keep me company on long walks, especially now that the weather is getting beautiful

Well we did it!! We were in Petsmart and son and I were walking by the cat cages. Mistake!!! Riley, a 3 year old, back and white, beautiful male started calling to us. We went back. My mom turns to me and says, "Do you want him?" I said, "Of course, but do I want the drama with the other animals?"

We got him and he is here checking the place out. The dogs have irritated him mildly, but MILO (the Queen of our castle) is not sure. When Riley turns and looks at her she hisses back and then shrinks away. Then Riley will disappear and she goes looking for him. Match made in heaven if you ask me! Cheap entertainment too.

Mags is such a great dog. She looks at Riley and then looks away. Matilda has no sense of space and walks right up to him. Riley swats and Matilda goes away.

I hear 2 cats in the playroom and there's some deep growling going on. Maybe I should peek or maybe not . . .

Short side of this is we saved another one. Yeah!!!! Petsmart gets their animals from a rescue here in town and so I feel good that we got him from them.

Sammy the wonder-Pom was also sponsored by Petsmart and the rescue group in Princeton....they groomed him for free before i took him and gave me $200. worth of coupons for both dog and kitty products and grooming...
if you join in Petperks you will also get coupons by email.

S, take a washcloth and run it over one cat, then the other....they need to smell the same....Sammy was the interloper with my 3 cats...now they sleep together in the bed with me....everyone hangs and chills, no issues except they take eachothers toys

congrats on the new baby!!!

Have y'all been keeping up with the eagles at the web cam? They're HUGE!!! As much as I've grown to love them, I still have to say, they're not all that cute anymore.

once they get in the litterbox together they will be more tolerant of each other....even when one of my cats goes to the vet for the day, the others get hissy with him...new kitty smells *funny* and is invading the Queen's territory....it will be better tomorrow, but maybe keep someone in a different room for the sleeping time....so there are no nighttime catfights.

(((HL))) - so glad ((Riley)) got a forever home!! What a handsome boy he is! I tried to show him to Elvis but, um, he's not very interested.

Elvis was playing with the tennis ball on top of my bookshelf, dropped it on the floor and started meowing at me to get it for him? I told him he is NOT a 2-year-old, and we are NOT playing the "I throw it down on the floor, mommy picks it up" game over and over, though I did give it back to him once.

Can't remember where I saw it, but it was a video of a toddler, she could walk, but wasn't that old. She was putting something on the table, the cat would knock it off, baby would laugh, put it back on the table, and this went on and on. Too cute, and pretty funny to see the toddler on the receiving end of "pick it up"

I need to start working on my open-book test, which means Mots should be in, at any time, to try and take over my desk....sigh.

Hugs and prayers,

Amy

Hi my fellow animal lovers...asking for your thoughts or prayers today as I'm accompanying my daughter to see a specialist for her cat, Tyson. Tyson was 6 years old yesterday and last week was diagnosed with diabetes and a possible pancreatic tumor (which is why we are seeing the specialist). My daughter has had her cat since college and is devastated and spent the weekend learning how to give him shots. She's only 26 and I'm so proud of her and her comittment to her animals (she has a Chinese SharPei who also has numerous health issues).

Snowing like mad in Michigan today...I would like to whine about that even though this is the wrong thread.

Prayers for Tyson. Diabetes is not a death sentence. My Nikko dog has it and is doing fine despite being blind and having glaucoma in one eye. He still enjoys his life and Tyson can too.

HL, Riley is beeyootiful! So glad you got a rescue cat.

Riley is hiding under our bed. Riley does NOT like Matilda (our Aussie) and tolerates Mags. He is still out as far as whether he likes Milo. We are not cohesive yet. I guess because he is an older cat it can take a few weeks???!!!! This is what I read any way. Husband slept on the couch with the 2 cats out there last night. They growled at eachother but that was the extent of it. I slept in our bed with the 2 dogs.

Seems the most problem is with the dogs. I also read that we shouldn't have gone and introduced the whole animal kingdom at once. Made a few mistakes I guess.

ANY advice from Fandy would be most appreciated and anyone else too. Thanks!!!!

HL, I don't really know either, but I have heard that it is good to keep the newcomer in a separate room for a couple of days. I remember when I got my dog, I kept the cats in a spare bedroom with a baby gate up, so they could look at each other and smell each other. That seemed to work pretty well, because after that the cats just ignored the dog (unless she got too close, then hissing and puffball tails) and she was just mildly curious about them.

Good luck!

it took 10 months, but now the dog and Fandy are sleeping together, when we come inside, Fandy inspects Sammy's buttisimo for cleanliness.

i think the worst thing that happened was I praised Fandy's High-jumps to the bed headboard and Sammy showed his displeasure by peeing on my bed...that was a few months ago.

patience and strict rules about no cat abuse from the dog.....especially if Riley is unfamiliar with them...the dog is the dominant species and large dogs can be scary.

I still crate Sammy at night, he jumps off the bed between 10-11PM and goes in there on his own to sleep (turns his back on me, but can see me if he wants)..then the cats take over the house.

i think you are doing the right thing to separate them for a while....

during the day I keep Sammy confined to the florida room, the cats have the rest of the house.
