My brother gives young nephews alcohol
I am livid. While I was visiting my mother in the hospital last night (New Year's Eve), my brother stayed with the kids. Trying to be the "fun uncle" he gave champagne to my 13-year old son, my 13-year old nephews, my 11- and 9-year old nieces. The 9-year old niece spat it out but the older ones had at least half a glass.
I am so disappointed. With the history of addiction in our family and the trauma it has created, I am so upset. Am I wrong to be this upset?

I can understand why you are upset.
I would be too.
What a dopey thing for him to do.
If it’s any comfort, they probably disliked it.
I would think that champagne wouldn’t really suit a 13, 11, and 9 year old’s palate.
Peace.

I would be beyond angry, Mama. But if your brothers true love is alcohol then in his sick mind he wants to show all the children his path to happiness. He also broke the law by supplying alcohol to minors and I for one would have reported him. Does your brother have a history of alcohol abuse and if so I would keep him away from all children. He is setting up those innocent ones for failure and inhibiting healthy brain development that they will need for success in their lives. Stay strong and protect the children.
I would be livid. But instead of me "fixing" or "fixating" on this I would grab my brother by the ear, drag him back to my house and explain as calmly as I possibly could that he is going to speak individually to each child and explain to them the jackass risk he took instead of "cool thing" he did. Such as...if an emergency happened - a fire for instance- that he would have been arrested and they would have ended up hanging out with the police until you could get back to them.
