What are the stages of rehab Like??

My partner is currently in rehab, for cocaine and gambling. She also has mental health issues.

Not ever being addicted, or being in rehab, what is it like for the addict week to week day to day?

do withdrawals happen from day one? do they blame different things?
what are your experiences of the emotions and motions?

Does the reality hit, the past destruction, the pain caused to families and to themselves?

Rehabs vary,, some are short term (30 days or less) that are maybe more effective for those who have relapsed and are needing to find their balance again. Some are 3 months and others 6 months to a year, and their programs vary with the time allowed to present them.

Usually the resident is detoxed before they arrive, in many cases here there is a detox nearby where a person will spend 3 days or more getting through the sickest part.

Some programs are 12-step based and the residents attend outside meetings as well as in house, of AA, NA, CA and some are religious based. Others have their own agendas.

Most offer counseling for mental health issues and sometimes treatment as well.

Some are "no contact" at least for a time, with outside people and family. This is to give the person time to focus on themselves and their needs and to stabilize within the program. Others have family days where family can visit and sometimes programs are offered to them while they are there, on healing or living life after addiction.

So there is no one way to describe rehabs. The plan is to give the resident the tools to get clean and sober and stay that way. It's up to the person to apply these tools as they learn to live life on life's terms.

The success of any rehab is usually directly related to the person's willingness to learn and work the program diligently to find and stay on a better path.

I hope this helps, and wish your partner all the best in finding a better way to live.
