Update!

Dear SR family! I am happy to say that son has been in rehab for 6 days now. He says he is dealing with cravings but wants to stay. I am still afraid to hope too much. He says all the right things.
The rehab is across the country so I can't visit and I'm worried.

It's a good sign that he wants to stay at only 6 days. Take comfort in that, and that he chose to go.

I know it's hard not to worry, but worry never changes the outcome and can eat you alive if you let it.

So, as we say here, land the mama hovercraft and let life unfold for him and for you. You will feel a lot better if you can distract yourself with good things for yourself...a support group, read a good book, join a club that shares the same interests as you, take up nature walks (my favourite way of finding my peace), and breathe deeply to clear out the cobwebs of fear.

Hugs from my heart to yours.

T,

At 6 days he should be through the worst of the withdrawal; wonderful that he wants to stay.

Now you should relax some -- you know he is safe. Time to take care of yourself.

Keep coming back,

Jim

T,

Unless I messed up the math, your son is coming up on 3 weeks in rehab, how is he doing?

How are you doing?

Keep coming back,

Jim

Thank you!
Son is still in rehab. He says it's difficult but that he determined to stay and finish the program. I hope it's not just because he'll go to jail if he drops out.
He met a few other veterans there and they seem to be looking out for each other.

There's nothing I can do but hope.

T,

"He met a few other veterans there and they seem to be looking out for each other."

That is terrific news!

As a general rule, that IS what vets do for each other -- I hope they all bond together as a unit - kick each others butts when needed, prop each other up, carry each other if they fall and never, ever, leave anyone behind.

Keep coming back,

Jim
