Questions about Massachusetts and "sectioning"
Hi my boyfriend has 2 addicted children and 1 who is not.
The original on who led me to post here is on probation and should be clean as she's drug tested by the state.
His son moved away to Mass and has been going down hill.
He has been living with the not addicted daughter.
She found him overdosed and is going to have him "sectioned" she called it, which I under will lead to him being given the choice between rehab and jail.
My question is whether Massachusetts pays for all of the rehab he will be receiving?
If so this seems like a great option for many people who can't afford rehab.

This link may help answer some of your questions. It doesn't sound like it is a slam dunk - the court has to order based on a medical diagnosis of addiction and that the person is a danger to himself or others. I believe the treatment (or jail if there are no beds - I'm not sure he has a choice) is paid by the state, but I also have heard that there are not enough treatment beds and this sometimes limits treatment.

If you have no income you will likely qualify for free healthcare which the hospital likely will have a social worker who can help him apply. Of course if he has assets, etc, all of that is taken into account. I don't know about Sectioning or if there are other things to take into account.
Hugs. I hope he takes the help.
