My stepson used his father's credit card to buy people drinks, food, and generally play the big man about town that he could have paid for a trip to Paris! Wish we had called the police then, but when we knew better, we did better.
I don't know how to advise you about the police in this case unless you have bank receipts that would show how much money you had originally.
