Addiction expalained through BioChemistry

Just finished watching this. It's long, so I did it in chunks.

A thought provoking scientific presentation on why addiction is a disease, and not a choice, explained by science.

I just watched this fast forwarding in spots for time purposes, but I intend to come back and watch it in its entirety.

Years ago I heard a prominent researcher and addiction doctor speak on much the same thing and I found both his speech and this video very informative and helpful to me in understanding my sons addiction.

Thank you for posting this, I highly recommend everyone find time to watch it all the way through.

Hugs

I did. All 72 minutes.

The most frightening thing was how the cortex "goes dark"(shuts down)
on an MRI when the midbrain takes over.

All these SR pages of sadness....."Why,oh WHY are they (addicts) doing this to
us!?!"

It's just science. There is nobody home.

Science is no fun.Especially for dummies. It is FAR more fun to go find witches
to burn.Get all butt-hurt. The doctor made a very convincing argument for this
phenomenon to be treated as a public health matter and not merely the personal
moral failing of 'weak' or 'immoral' people.

Watch all 72 minutes if you have the time.My own personal opinion is that this
addiction phenomenon has been responsible for more avoidable/unnecessary cruelty
toward human beings ---- than a small scale thermonuclear exchange.

What meaning does mens rea have-----when the damned computer (cortex)
is shut down?

This video is very interesting. I really appreciate the points he makes about non addict and addict.

I can't say I agree 100% but it is food for thought.
