OT: Philip Seymour Hoffman
He was found dead this morning. Apparently, he was in treatment last year for heroin addiction.
What a loss.

that's awful! drug addiction is the scariest thing i have ever come across. to have so much to live for, so much to offer life, so many people who love you and have no control over the demon addiction. it takes the soul. when my child is using the person who looks at me is not my son. it is an awful look, so hard to describe. i know it is his disease looking me in the eye and saying fu, get out of my way. makes me cry...

sad. why ?
I just dont understand the power of the drug. prayiing for all of our loved one's battling this demon called HEROIN! It is evil and consuming. Special prayers to the dear children of Phillip and his dear partner (wife).

I think my heart skipped a beat when I heard the news. I try not to think too much about the addict who brought me to this part of the SR forums, but this particular man--Hoffman--and my ex had/have similar charisma and gifts. I have felt anxiety all evening.
8 bags of heroin found with him in the bathroom. What kind of pain was he so desperate to numb? I doubt he was using for any kind of pleasure.
It is a lonely way to die.

I liked him in the movies, so I was sad about this. It also made me anxious because I thought about my heroin-addicted step-daughter and my abf whose DOC is pain pills. Hoffman was clean for over 20 years, which is scary to think about, too.

So sad but I look at it differently. He was sober for 23 years....WOW! He had a life other than drugs! He had a family and career. None of those 23 years of success would be possible for an active heroin user.
At least he had a life.....even though the ride should have been longer.

I've heard less than 10% completely stay off heroin once they've tried it. You know why I primarily only see young people hooked on opiates? Because there are very, very few continual opiate users that ever make it to 50 yrs. of age. Tragic indeed.......
