Oh, then it definitely wasn't new in 1961!! In fact, mom wasn't born until 1940. Oh well, she had to have really loved that movie to sit that long when pregnant with my fat self.

Hugs and prayers,

Amy

I think it had a couple of re-releases. I think Anvil mentioned one in 1967?

Ok.....honestly (I couldn't help myself again)......I never sat through the whole movie beginning to end......really. I have seen snippets here and there that probably all put together would make the entire length of the movie....but never all in one sitting. But The King and I.....oh yes.....several times....Yul Brynner......

I'm not sure if this image will work.....I've never done it before. I may need lessons.

Another great 1939 movie was The Wizard of Oz which got snubbed at the Oscars due to GWTW being released the same year. Those damn flying monkey's scared me for years.

Trivia:
Hattie McDaniel who portrayed Mammy in GWTW was the first African American to win an Oscar.

The wizard of oz is one of my all time favorite movies!! I remember waiting for it to come on tv once a year. For some reason I always cried at the end. Still do. I'm not sure what that's about.

I think Jaws was one of the worst idea of a movie ever made. I wonder how many phobias were created after it was released.

After I saw it, we spent our summer vacation on Martha!'s Vineyard - where the movie was actually filmed. I still swam in the ocean but the sound track of jaws was ever present.....thanks to my stupid brother lol.

Bum Bum Bum Bum Bum Bum Bum Bum Bum Bum.........

......couldn't resist LMN.

Yeah......when I was a young adult (and stupid and crazy), my friends and I went skinny dipping in the ocean at Atlantic City shortly after JAWS was released (it wasn't like it is now back then....the casinos hadn't moved in) . I survived......but thought later that perhaps that wasn't the smartest thing to do. lol

KE - funny, I was just thinking of the "music" (terror!!) from Jaws.

I'm snowed in for a couple of days - maybe I need to actually USE the Netflix I have and watch some movies? It would have to be better than the news coverage of all of Atlanta driving like idiots, right?

Hugs and prayers,

Amy

Chino - I was thinking the same thing when I saw this thread When I went to aunt Phyllis's, she had some aflac ducks there (my cousin works for them). It wasn't until I got home that she said "OMG, those were YOUR ducks!! I forgot to tell you!!"

My quackers are in Arkansas...sigh.

Hugs and prayers,

Amy

It was not long after I first saw Jaws, many years ago, when I was having a "floating in salt water" contest with my husband on a beach in Florida, just bobbing along on top as the salt water lightens you a lot.

We had floated out pretty far and I saw a dark shadow under water coming straight for me.

It came closer and I screamed, yelled "SHARK!!" and I swear I walked on water running for shore with my husband not far behind, also splashing and dashing in panic.

I turned to look back to see if I was being followed and the "dark thing" surfaced...it was a cormorant duck...swimming underwater looking for fish.

Love this thread, CO, thanks for the smiles.

You all SUCK with your GWTW & flying monkees & hungry fish....

(e.g. 'chick flicks')

2001 is quite OBVIOUSLY the greatest work ever filmed, and it is
terribly embarrassing to think that more than a few of you do not
know this!

Kubrick & Clarke......GODS......(all else is tripe!)
