In A Hole
In a prison within this prison within
Just sitting with myself reminiscing
How I’m still fascinated with life full of sin
Knowing I’m dead if I go back there again
Man! How the devil plays tricks with my mind
Trying to convince me I can play safely just one more time
Then with arms wide open as I run at him blind
Stop the tape right here! Play it back….rewind
God I beg you to allow this struggle to ease
I’m bound by these chains, Lord I need your keys
When it comes to the devil, I seem eager to please
Life is hard unless you live as a sleaze
I’m tired of this dude, Lord I need you to have my back
Walking with the devil just adds to my tracks
Tired of the decay from this spiritual plague
I need to trust in you instead of the contents of this sack
In a prison within this prison within
Just sitting with myself reminiscing
How I’m still fascinated with life full of sin
Knowing I’m dead if I go back there again
Man! How the devil plays tricks with my mind
Trying to convince me I can play safely just one more time
Then with arms wide open as I run at him blind
Stop the tape right here! Play it back….rewind

I hope no one is getting tired of me posting my brothers poems. This seems to be the only way he knows how to communicate right now & I think the advice offered to him from those of you on this forum is really helping him.
Once again, thanks for your patience, kind words, & input!
Nice. Thank you for posting these. Nobody is tired of them at all, post away!
I can definitely relate to a lot of what's in this one and I think a lot of recovering addicts can. There's always those lies that our addictions try to feed us that we can have 'just one beer' or 'get high just one more time' but it never really works that way.

Ive found it insightful to read your brothers poems. I think its a great way for him to express his feelings, and hopefully as he writes he gains clarity. My prayers go out to both of you. I think your an amazing sister, and I pray that he will seek some help to manage his addictions when he gets out. Life can be good. My husband always found this quote inspiring while he was working on his early recovery: "I can choose to let it define me, confine me, refine me, outshine me, or I can choose to move on and leave it behind me " - anonymous. I pray your brother can step out from behind the shadow of addiction, its a part of him, but he is so much more.
