Clean, Overcoming Addiction and Ending America's Greatest Tragedy

I haven't finished reading the book yet, but I started CLEAN by David Sheff. He wrote Beautiful Boy about his son who is an addict. Has anyone else read the book Clean? Folks on this forum have really helped me in the past dealing with my AS. I am grateful that he is in a sober living facility and working. AMEN!

It may be helpful for others to read the book and comment on this forum about what you learn from the book. Yes, we know the drug epidemic in this society is our nation's great challenge. We, who share here, are victims of the crazy world of addiction. Do we really buy into the fact that drug addiction is a disease? What are the consequences of incarceration of men and women who are addicts? What are better ways to deal with addiction than through our current/broken system?

I hope I can find answers to some of these questions.

When I first started reading about addiction, I bought up a whole bunch of books. I have this one, but haven't read it yet. I found it interesting because it talks about many of the current methods of treatment. And at the time that was what I was interested in learning about.

I dont know if you have seen this post by Marshmallow, but it has a link to an hour movie on the concept of choice vs disease. It goes into a lot of detail about brain function. Going well beyond a simplistic explanation, but its still easy to understand.

It also talks about the broken system, and about how many addicts are in prison, and well its all along the lines of what I think the book is about.

I think I had this book mixed up with one called Chemical Carousel that I bought and have not read. I think its along the same lines however. This one sounds interesting, and Ive heard of the other book he wrote, Beautiful Boy. I dont have that one as I was looking more at treatment concepts at the time. But I think I will order Clean. I will be glad to comment back to you.
