Surrender

Friday, March 8, 2013

You are reading from the book The Language of Letting Go

Surrender

Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God, as we understood Him.
—Step Three of Al-Anon

Surrendering to a Power greater than ourselves is how we become empowered.

We become empowered in a new, better, more effective way than we believed possible.

Doors open. Windows open. Possibilities occur. Our energy becomes channeled, at last, in areas and ways that work for us. We become in tune with the Plan for our life and our place in the Universe.

And there is a Plan and Place for us. We shall see that. We shall know that. The Universe will open up and make a special place for us, with all that we need provided.

It will be good. Understand that it is good, now.

Learning to own our power will come, if we are open to it. We do not need to stop at powerlessness and helplessness. That is a temporary place where we re-evaluate where we have been trying to have power when we have none.

Once we surrender, it is time to become empowered.

Let the power come, naturally. It is there. It is ours.

Today, I will be open to understanding what it means to own my power. I will accept powerlessness where I have no power; I will also accept the power that is mine to receive.

When I began recovery, I ran right to this step without doing a thorough Step 1 and 2 (they seemed so obvious to me I skipped right over them). Until I acknowledged my lack of power over others and believed that God, as I understood God, could do for me what I could not do for myself, I was able to hand my life over to God but I always took it back again...and could not figure out why it wasn't working.

Once I got the hang of it, I loaded poor God right up. Any time I could not manage, I prayed and gave it to God. What a relief to unload the burden, what a relief to feel God at work in my life, helping me every day.

Today I pray each morning and ask to be led...not by my codependency, not by my son's addiction, but by God. With faith and gratitude, I just ask God to show me the way and then pay attention to the signs along the path.

Thanks for this reminder to let myself be led, LMN. Something I needed to read this morning.

Hugs

It is amazing the things that happen when you can finally let go.

I remember thinking, like Ann, that I had let go...only to find that I had taken it back.

Once the "aha" came.....it was sumthin sumthin.....

If you are one that is stuck in the push me pull you of surrender, keep working on your relationship and trust in your Higher Power and it will come to you.

I got body slammed back into my faith due to my husband's addiction. I had to re-learn to sit on my hands and not force any outcomes.

I've watched alot of Joel Osteen, TD Jakes, John Gray (pastor...not the author) Joyce Meyer...all of these...you can tune in on TV or the internet. All have some kind of message that helps bring about surrender (IMHO). I read alot and I try to stay away from negative people, places and things.

I could never describe to you the peace you will feel when you really let God take over everything.
Be totally willing to let him guide you in every way. Scary scary stuff for us co-dependents that have to control all.

I'm a bit of a mess, still....over the sudden death of my mom.....but I am allowing myself to grieve and mourn the way God intended.
I would never be able to get thru this if I didn't have my faith....and count my blessings on a DAILY basis.

Funny....the common theme this week is surrender. I just posted yesterday about not needing to know everything and the "whys"

Coincidence? Me thinks not....
