Mini Intervention

I live in a home where we happen to all be in recovery. The one holding the lease relapsed. She agreed to go to a year long program, then at the last minute drank and OD'd so badly she spent three days in the hospital and is still very weak.

Tonight her fear kicked in. My other roommate and I staged an on the spot intervention. We let her know her fears about giving up her cat and dog are unfounded as a friend of hers that does dog rescues has stepped upped to watch them for the year long program.

We explained we are planning on staying here so she has a place to call home when she gets back.

We each explained how we hate this disease but not the addict. We hate how her addiction makes her act but not her.

I even gave her a parting gift of closed in plastic chocolate a dear friend gave to me, when she needs it will lift her mood :)

I was shocked we did this on the spot. As a double winner I just played on what I would have needed when I was ready to get clean.

Tomorrow she is leaving. Although I refuse to enable I did agree to start her car every two weeks.. I don't think that's an 'enabling' deal myself. Someone needs to do it, the car is inanimate, and it takes so little time.

I generally am not a big fan of interventions, can alienate a person unless they ready anyway, but her actions until her fear kicked in told me she was ready for attempt recovery again.

After going No Contact with Mom until she got into recovery and my drug abusive, physically violent addict sister, I'm so proud of her for going in, and me for standing my ground.

Positive thoughts and prayers for MC would be appreciated. Thanks

Shock
