Haven't been here in some time, but one click brings me back to caring about all of you. Kind Eyes, you are something amazing.
Someone wrote about a heroin addict: and she is choosing to live it.
When it comes to heroin, there is no choice; they are consumed with the need; there is no other existence for them. There is nothing in their life but the next fix. When I first came to this forum, a mother posted about keeping her purse under her pillow to keep her daughter from stealing money. I thought this will never be me, not my family.... Wake up, you are the parent of an addict - you didn't create this, you didn't teach him this, you can't cure this, but it is in your life - and you need to hide your purse, your money, your everything - because remember, even the most lovable, remarkable child, can become an addict. And their focus is on the next fix......

Well said.

And even the most diligent, remarkable parents can have a child who becomes an addict. This disease does not discriminate.

There are so many kind, loving, generous, intelligent people here on SR. None of us signed up for the problem of coping with addiction in our lives......including the addict. What becomes important (as with any problem) is how we choose to deal with it.
