Need Advice
Hello everyone,
I am trying to help a friend who is struggling with alcohol addiction. He is in his early 20's and has been drinking for at least 6 years. I am worried that he may harm himself. Do you have some quick resources or words of advice? I want to confront him and help him to realize he is damaging himself. He has mentioned that he has considered hurting himself. I don't know what to do.
Thanks.

Hello yaddamean, Welcome to SR!
I'm sorry to say that there are no 'quick fixes' or miracle cures for someone struggling with addiction and alcoholism. All of us here understand how painful it is to watch someone we care about be so self-destructive. If we could love someone sober, not a single one of us would be here.
There are a variety of paths to sobriety, but none of them will work unless and until the person is really ready. Here is a post I found very helpful when I first found SoberRecovery:
http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...l-problem.html
As far as resources go, this post lists a variety of programs for recovery:
http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...formation.html
If you have time, you may want to read the posts in the "stickies" at the top of both the 'Friends and Family of Alcoholics' and 'Friends and Family of Substance Abusers' forums. They contain a wealth of basic information.
Make yourself at home and post and ask questions as much as you need. HG
