..just make sure Elvis knows he is damned lucky to have an owner like you!

As far as answering the question of 'how someone goes from being an RN to
working at McDonalds'......be thankful that such imbeciles self-eliminate
by asking such stupid questions (it saves you ALOT of time screening for friends).

Those of us who have been around the block know the honor and dignity of
work----and would laugh at any fool who would pose such a question!

Amy, I have always looked at you as a shining example of how addiction can be overcome. I have watched how strong you remained in spite of the circumstances you find yourself in.

If I were you, I would be honest with a prospective employer. It is not as if you only have two months clean. You have more than 5 years. It shows that you have picked yourself up and moved forward with your life. It shows strength of character and perserverance. It shows that you were prepared to do whatever it took to get clean by working at McDonalds. I think all of those are characteristics that I would want in an employee. You would also not have to live in fear that someone will find out.

I live on the other side of the world, but I have often thought that I would employ someone like you in a heartbeat in my business.

I truly believe that your life is going to change for the better in the next year or two. Hard work like yours eventually get rewarded. Just hang in there for this last little distance that you have to go before finding a good job. We are all rooting for you. (((HUGS)))

I'm with Chino. I don't know how you do it, my friend.

You were so supportive when I was in college, and helped give me the strength to follow it through to the end.

I am so very proud of how far you have come. Please know I continue to keep you in my prayers!

oh, so sending light and hope through the wires at you! I pray you find deep golden threads of faith that life WILL just keep on getting better...and you know how far you have come!

cleaning houses can be a solid way to support yourself while you pursue your goals
my sister (fellow recovering alcoholic) opted to "go underground" and clean houses in early recovery and then while she pursued her CD counseling degree.

I opted to "go underground" and cater at peoples houses while in early recovery and pursuing my degree too (and I still cater occasionally)

going underground was a nice way to achieve some quietude and serenity. we had both been bartending before that. the money you make cleaning is far, far better than you can make at the, I'm guessing somewhat demeaning, mcD's. once you get a private client your name gets passed on by word of mouth. then you end up having three clients and you're set. up here people ask around $20/hour (!!) and each job usually comes with very flexible scheduling and usually the house you're cleaning makes for quite nice surroundings. cleaning can be quite meditative too...

wishing you the best!

Dear Amy, I rarely visit the boards now, but when I did you were always giving your wisdom and strength to someone who was in need. Your essence shines through these
boards and is a light that will shine through any and all interviews. You will come through this chaotic time with the same wisdom and grace that you have carried since you have started your recovery. Networking is key, stay positive - you are on the right course and you will be rewarded in time. Blessings

Hi Amy

You have been so kind and supportive to me and I want to be sure I extend that towards you as well. In fact, you have kind and supportive to many of us here at SR.

You have a lot of tools to get through this. SR being one of them. I am praying for you and wishing for the best for you. You *deserve* to be happy. I am looking forward to the post that tells us you have found your own place, you are working, the cats are happy, and that you made it though. I am looking forward to it because I know it will happen.

I believe in you and I believe good things will come your way.

Love always,

Lily

I am an RN and I learned in course called Professional Obligations that nurses tend to be co-dependant!! Imagine that!! Why didn't they bus us all off to treatment then and there?

I have been in managment most of my career. I don't get all those letters you refer to... maybe you are not saying that you are an A. You mentioned being honest so I thought you might have been referring to that. At any rate, after you graduate and take boards, you do not have to reveal history like that if you are not bound by a program or professional organization..Do you have a professional mentor? You should find someone who can help you start your career.

As far as a job goes now, there are all sorts of healthcare organizations who love to hire student nurses. Medical Call centers is one that come to mind. I worked as a nurses aide when I was a student.. ( back in the old days!)

Hold you head up! Love that you quit smoking and are losing weight.. !!
