Ran into my RAD last night

My husband and I were out running errands together (exciting Saturday night, huh? lol), and decided to eat at our local Mexican restaurant. As we're pulling in a parking spot, our RAD gets up off a bench and smiles really big, walks over to us.

She was there with a friend and his family, celebrating his mom's birthday. She was smoking a cig and I told her "busted!" because she had quit about a week ago. She told us everyone inside with the party was wasted, and she came out for a break. She had bummed a cig from another smoker on the bench.

I told her that's why I always become a hermit during the first couple of months of quitting. I can't handle being sober around drunk idiots, without my pacifier.

She sat down with us at our table and holy cow, the party goers were in a different world. I asked her to please not let them know we were there, because I couldn't handle it if they started hollering at us.

She said she couldn't do that to us, and couldn't handle any more, either. She left when we did, and who woulda ever thunk it a few years ago?

You handles that well, and so did she. You can both be proud of yourselves, your recovery is shining.

Hugs
