AH 3 weeks out of detox...how much can I expect from him?

AH 3 weeks out of detox...how much can I expect from him?
AH has been out for 3 weeks he's staying with his mom at the moment. We have 2 small children, several times now he was suppose to come spend time with them but cancelled due to "bad days"...should this not bother me? He says I need to better understand his recovery? OK I get he's in Recovery but does that mean its ok to bail anytime you want? Am I expecting to much? Should he still not be responsible for his commitments?

I guess it depends on the DOC and individual. My husband is only 19 days clean from percocets (used suboxone and has weaned off to 1/8 of a pill a day and will be done in by Wednesday).
He was been attending at least 2 NA meetings a day, works everyday, and has been working his butt off all day. Trimming trees, pressure washing the pool deck, etc. Only one day - did he feel kind of tense and lethargic. He says the meetings re-energize him and keeping busy helps him.
But again he is new to recovery and only 19 days clean. I am hopeful but realistic too.
