Son had a close call
Today my non-addict son called to say that he had been a passenger in a bad car accident but not to worry because he was okay and no one was seriously hurt. It helped me to remember that anyone we love can be taken anytime - not just our addicted loved ones who seem most at risk.
I'm glad to hear that he's ok. I remind myself of that very thing quite often. If I'm busy mourning the possible death of my son, someone else very dear to me could be taken from this earth. That thought helps me stay grounded and grateful for those who are healthy, loving members of my family.
Thanks for this reminder that our NON-addicted loved ones are important and deserve our love and attention every single day.

EJG, I'm so glad that your son came out of the accident okay. That's so scary. Thanks for reminding us. We get so engrossed in worrying about our addicted children that sometimes we forget how quickly we can lose our healthy ones.
