Drove down to my AD's yesterday to see my granddaughter, and I am so glad I did! I haven't seen her for several months. She starts school tomorrow (junior in high school), and I took her shopping for a few school clothes.

Their living conditions are deplorable. They are in a trailer that should be condemned. It is so hard to keep a smile on my face for my granddaughter. I was just glad to get out of there to take her shopping.

AD was holed up in her bedroom, blankets on the windows and no lights except for a few Christmas lights on one wall. It's depressing. She's been that way for years now, keeping windows covered and it's like living in a damned cave.

My granddaughter is such a pretty talented young lady, and I pray she finds a way out of the life she is currently forced to live. She told me she's putting in job applications at all the restaurants there for a waitressing job, and I told her I was proud of her. It will be her first job.

Her grades have continued to be stellar over the years in school despite the crappy influence of her addict mother, and I know she will continue to do well this year. I finally got a school picture from last year while I was there and just wanted to share it with you.

She's a beautiful young woman. It's amazing how a child can grow up with an addicted parent and still excel...yet others, who grow up in a loving home, fall down the path of addiction.

Your dear granddaughter will be in my prayers (as are you and your AD) that she can continue on a positive path and enjoy a happy life. She is lucky to have a grandmother who can model healthy living.
