first nar-anon meeting tonight...
Hi, I'm new on here and am about to go to a nar-anon meeting for the first time and I'm super nervous. My boyfriend is an addict and so is my brother and I am pretty much the main support for both of them and it's so stressful I feel I need to try a meeting. What is it like the first time? Do you just sit down and wait for people to talk to you? should you introduce yourself? do they ask you to speak? Also, if you have any other important things I should know, I'd really appreciate it...I'm really nervous. Thanks so much
Hello Fly! Welcome to SR!!!!
I'm very glad you have decided to go to a face-to-face meeting! So many of us have found strength and hope through Nar-Anon or Al-Anon.
I was very frightened when I went to my first meeting, but it really was wonderful. You will not have to speak at all if you do not want to. Prior to the start of the meeting, there may be some folks who introduce themselves and provide you with some of the literature. Some of us have gone to more than one meeting before we had the courage to speak.
Huge hugs!!!! You will be among people who completely understand what you are going through.
Keep reading, keep posting! You are among people who understand.....
