An open Letter to Newcomers
Dear Newcomers..
Open your hearts to what can be.. you already know what has happened.. Over 6 yrs ago, I found this site looking for help for my wife.. see, she had slipped back into her addictions after 10 plus yrs of very active recovery... I met her at a recovery picnic.. well... I just want to say.. I went beserk.. the pain was overwhelming.. ain't obcession grand? So a warm welcome if your new.. it does get better.. I promise.
I wrote this poem as I was finding my way to a new way of thinking..
The Newcomer
She walked into her first meeting
with a heart that was so low
she started really crying
and said; I have nowhere left to go.
We held her in our arms
as best we could
for all of us had been there
we truly understood.
The pain of someone's problem
was something we couldn't dismiss
it had followed us to this place,
where we remembered in bitter reminisce.
Each of us was plagued with loving
an addict in our lives
some of them were children, and husbands,
and boyfriends and even wives......
And we too had fallen into shame
from all those hurtful matters,
as we watched in horror,
when lives began to lay in shatters.
For the answers didn't come
as easy as before
and we thought we had them
but not any more......
So we gathered up our strength
as we began to carry on
with what was left of our dreams
our homes and everything else that was gone.
We clamored to each other
as the days and weeks passed by
giving all we had to acceptance
and twelve steps we did apply...
And then you showed up
on our doorstep with no where left to go
our hearts remembered
when we were so low..
And being new to this family
begins to find you not alone
we were all newcomers
who thought we could do this on our own......
