Hopefulness
I went to see my AD at her rehab today. Everytime I see her I want to cry. But, they are tears of joy. When I leave there I say a prayer and a thank you to my HP for giving me more and more glimpses of my real daughter. The daughter that brings me joy. The daughter that brings me hope. Hope for both of us. I have changed so much and so has she. She has such a sparkle in her eye. I know there are no guarentees in life and it could all fall apart. But for today I choose to see the good in my daughter. She has gone back to writing some, which she used to be so good at. I would like to share a poem, with her permission, that she wrote, a glimpse of addiction, a little better understanding of what it must be like inside an addicts head.
The Voice of Addiction
In your head
Demons screaming
conning, talking
lying, feening.
Nightmares in the
dead of day,
telling you it'll
all be okay.
Just one bag, one line
one hit, one shot
C'mon you'll be fine,
You won't get caught.
You've done so well
They're all wrong
Oh hell,
It's been so long.
Just one time
What could it hurt?
This time's different
You can make it work.
It says all the things
You want to hear.
This voice will convince you
There is nothing to fear.
You'd like to think
that it is right
But use your strength
And use your might
Keep your goals in
your sight.
And fight it with every breath
Because giving in
could result in death.
In your head
Demons screaming
conning, talking
lying, feening.
Nightmares in the
dead of day,
telling you it'll
all be okay.
Just one bag, one line
one hit, one shot
C'mon you'll be fine,
You won't get caught.
You've done so well
They're all wrong
Oh hell,
It's been so long.
Just one time
What could it hurt?
This time's different
You can make it work.
It says all the things
You want to hear.
This voice will convince you
There is nothing to fear.
You'd like to think
that it is right
But use your strength
And use your might
Keep your goals in
your sight.
And fight it with every breath
Because giving in
could result in death.
