5 Years Clean Today
5 Years Clean Today
Today is the day that I quit taking opiates 5 years ago. I am living proof that addiction can be arrested. So for all of the addicts on this site that are not where I am yet. Remember, there is HOPE, cause if I can do it, ANYONE CAN. When I was using I couldn't see a way out. I didn't think I could do this, and I was afraid. There's NOTHING TO FEAR. We should Fear dying from an overdose, more than dying from cleaning up. Wishing every addict freedom from the suffering of addiction
OMG!!!!!! Thank You Impurrrfect...... It's a miracle. I feel free as a bird. I was so tired of chasing that garbage. It was bondage for me. And now my son is cleaned up too. He has 18 days today. I sure hope he can hang in there too. I keep praying. I never shared my addiction with him, but it's in the genes. He figured it out on his own. I wanted to set a good example for him, and now I can. He never knew about my addiction. I kept it well hidden from all. I was a functioning addict. Worked, cooked, cleaned, took care of bills, the house, the garden, laundry, you name it. I think I quit just in time. Whew!!!!!
GOD IS GOOD
I give all my thanks to GOD

Thanks Everyone, for your support. And Anvil, you have a heart of gold. Your always there routing me on, since day 1. Thank You.
And Dgillz..... You will be there sooner than you think. 5 years went so fast. Just don't pick up, and don't use. Do whatever it takes to stay clean. I suffered in the beginning, but it's well worth it. Thank you for your support.

big congrats going out to you. I know how much it means for people to hear from those that reach for sobriety and make it. Five years! That is truly truly awesome. I'm glad that you have shared this with us.
Keeping you and your son in my prayers.

To all of you great people here on SR that support me and inspire me, I just want to say thank you all so much. My life is good, but it would be so much better if my son were further along in his recovery too. I am free from the suffering of active addiction, but my son is in early recovery, and suffering. I will not be happy, until he is well and happy.
But, I am grateful that I no longer use opiates, and I no longer crave them. As a matter of fact, they disgust me. They have ruined my only childs life, and I am angry about that. The good news is he is clean today. No drugs no cigarettes, and doing what he needs to do, so things are starting to look up.
Thank You for your support.
It makes me feel great to see that you are all right here with me.

Congrats!!! You give me hope for my loved ones who are battling addiction. My husband, sister, and nephew (her son) are fighting this battle. I remember in one of your earlier posts you saying you did it without meetings, sponsors, etc. Am I remembering it correctly? The reason I ask is because my sis used opiates for 10 years. The last 8 mos Heroin. She went to a 30 day rehab for the first time in Jan. and now professes to be clean. I desperately want to believe her. But going back to same area with no meetings, sponsors, etc. makes me very skeptical. You are a walking testimony!!! Thanks for sharing.
