Hmmph. What to do, What to do?

BBD, you're right. They won't immediately take her child.. so perhaps, she would change some habits. She says she's "in recovery" now.. but we all know heroin recovery rates, especially without being instituionalized...
oh, at first they will keep an eye on her, and want her to get help for sure.
it would really be a good thing for both of them.

Jenny, I believe 100% you know the right thing to do because it was your first instinct, your gut reaction. I wonder if you're hesitating because of your ambivalence with addiction in general? You grew up with addiction, have your own issues with it, and I don't get the feeling you're relating to this little girl's situation. I get the feeling you're trying to decide if the addiction is bad enough, not what's actually happening to this child.

I could be out in left field with that ^, but if there's any truth to it, is there any way you can put yourself in her shoes or that of a loved one? What would you want to happen if it's your child's reality or a niece, etc?

Actually, that is exactly it..

Is she in THAT much danger?

Is is really THAT bad?

Well, her mom IS in recovery?

Etc. Etc. Etc.

You're absolutely right. My guilty conscience will eat away at me too...

Yes, she's in that much danger.

Yes, it's that bad.

No, she's not in recovery.
