Question???
O.K. when you meet someone and you discover that they are a recovering alcoholic or drug addict, do u automatically say no thanks you are no good and I am not into you cause of your issues? That to me sounds mean and uncaring. I mean he or she is recovering and in a 12 step program just as I am in Al-anon. I am confused about this. I am single and just curious what you guys have to say about this. Thanks

I found that until I truly addressed my codependency issues, it was best that I stayed out of any relationships, whether it be with someone in a 12 step program or not.
Until I did that, I continued to make unhealthy choices in men. Of course I rationalized every one of those relationships for one reason or another. The bottom line was every one of those relationships was with a man who was emotionally unavailable at best, and emotionally abusive at worst. One of those relationships was with a man in a 12 step program.
