peace this Mother's Day

A Mother's Day card arrived today from my son thanking me for "truly saving his life" He states that he wants me to know that among my accomplishments, to him, being a mother was my greatest.

I am grateful that he is sober and able to appreciate our relationship. He is making good use of the recovery opportunities that are being provided by staying in treatment for 14 mo. and working a program.

In June He is coming home for a week so that I will be able to go to a meeting with him as he takes a one yr. chip.

In the past, my AS tried suicide and ODd. For months at a time I wouldn't hear from him or know where he was.
I know peace this Mother's Day.
Hugs to all of you that have hope that your loved one will find recovery.

I have heard it repeated here and elsewhere, "Hands off the addict"

In our case, my son might not be here today if I had not intervened. "We ought not do for them what they can do for themselves." However, sometimes our loved ones get to such a dark place, they lose the will to get out of it and need guidance. I am fortunate that my son eventually became willing and that I worked the al-anon program until he did and continue to.

The support I get here helped me through some difficult times.
