I've found the best information at an Naranon or Alanon meeting. They know what is available locally, because they have "been there".

Good luck.

Love in recovery,

My son went to MPI in Oakland at Alta Bates Hospital. It has both an inpatient and outpatient program. This is for adults 18 and over. For those under 18, the program is called Thunder Road.

I thought their program was good; however, it is only as good as the addict wants it to be.

Actually you should be looking for help for you, not him. When he is ready HE WILL LOOK.

Please try some AlAnon, NarAnon or therapy for yourself and remember the 3 C's:

You didn't CAUSE it,

You can't CONTROL it, and

You can't CURE it.

With the above being said, there is an EXCELLENT recovery facility called Janus in Santa Cruz:

Janus of Santa Cruz - Leaders in substance abuse treatment

Please take care of you.

Love and hugs,

dslalonde, did your son decide that he wants to go to Rehab? Or are you hoping he will? It's up to him. I sure hope you understand that. All you can do is support him in his recovery. No enabling. Let him suffer the consequences of his actions. I have been where you are, it's not pretty. I sure hope this works out for your son. I see how much you love him. Your a good mom, and his addiction is not your fault. Be strong. My son's addiction almost killed me. Don't do what I did. You need to get tough for your son's recovery. It's not an easy thing to deal with, and there is no quick fix to drug addiction. Good Luck and God Bless You, Let us know how you make out. We are all routing for you.

Ok guys, sorry, have been so busy at work and haven't had time to let you guys know what was going on. I gave my son an stern ultimatum on Wednesday evening. Either get in TX or leave. If i returned home and he was still here, the police would escort him out. Car was to remain here , and of course , no phone. When i returned home, he was gone and did not return last night. In the meantime i contacted a drug rehab councillor in Antioch. He was a wealth of information and we have 5 facilities lined up, he also was very informative on my son's behavior, what we were really looking at for a successful chance at his rehab. We spoke at length, and can only hope my son could get someone as knowledgeable and caring as he is. Now, at least i feel we have direction. I fully realize that this is only the beginning, but in my heart at least it is a direction. I am scared to death still that we may not reach him in time, and do not know how i will handle if we do lose him, but hey, our method was not working. One of the things he did tell me was that my son does not remember things. That we would have to keep repeating things over and over to him. Because of the type of drug he is on, that it really effects memory and interpretation. Only a few of the things i learned from him.
As you know, i do not know what the weekend holds, but will be in touch.
Hope all of you have a wonderful weekend.
Thanks for your thoughts and prayers
susan
