afraid to hope

As I type this I am almost afraid I will jinx things. I have had hope in the past only to have things go from bad to worse so any sign of good actually scares me to death. My son has been in rehab for 3 weeks now and the first 2 were total h>ll with his whiny emails, trying to get kicked out by breaking into the meds cabinet, etc. and asking us to come get him which we refused to do. But ever since we refused to come get him his emails have steaduly gotten a lot more positive with tonight being the best. He says he is ready to grow up (he is 20 and should have grown up a long time ago). I guess what I am really asking for are prayers that he truely means it and once out of rehab (which won't be for 2 mroe months) will work to stay clean. He still has a long way to go, but please help me pray that he is on his way.

Remember "one day at a time"
Try to stay in the NOW. For today he is safe, in recovery and making progress ( not perfection)

Turn it over and let go.

This is the best time for you to stop worrying and enjoy some serenity.
Are you working any program of your own to learn how to redirect your focus ?

Dorton,

This mama believes in praying for our kids, so consider your son added to my list. I have so many addicted people that I lift up every day and ask God to be with them and watch over them.

Hang in there. Let the rehab do what they can do for your son. And if you haven't found meetings for yourself, I'd recommend finding an Al Anon or Nar Anon meeting in your area. I did that and it helped me tremendously when having to deal with my AD. PLUS...a huge bonus is that what I learned (and continue to learn) in meetings and on this board helps me in my everyday life!

Regarding this time that your son is in rehab, well the way I saw it was I needed to be doing everything I could to get better while my AD was in rehab trying to get better herself. Thank God He led me to my meetings.

Hugs and prayers,
Hangin' In

When my daughter went to rehab, everyone here gave me the same advise Seeker gave you. By doing that - going to meetings, continuing to see my therapist, living each day one at a time - I learned to appreciate and enjoy the freedom from chaos.

Oh, prayers absolutely coming your way and your son.

Praying for both you & your son. I, too, recommend meetings.

Hugs,
Chris

IMO, when we step out of the way, good things tend to happen.
(well it did in my case, anyway :))

I'm praying for your son.

Dorton,
I am so happy for you. At least he is in Rehab. How did you finally get him to agree?
My 19 yr old is away. Still will not admit he has a problem.
It hurts, but you at least have some hope. You will see your real son come out soon. What a joy that will be. I can only hope mine will do the same.
