hello, has anyone experienced someone getting clean by spending time in jail? no treatment after jail just doing what they learned from a pevious 90 days at least a year ago.

Most jails allow AA or NA meetings. Why would you not try this if you are going to be locked up anyway?

Katie, I have met people who found recovery in jail and managed to hang on to it after they were released, Many, many people get clean without specific recovery programs. The ones I know who are happiest in their recovery are those who connected to AA or NA and built a support network to help they stay clean.

Welcome to SoberRecovery.

Hugs

I'm part of a group of people who go into the local jail for AA meetings.

Some of those people are still sober, some aren't.

I got clean in jail, but I didn't work a recovery program. I stayed clean for a good length of time (over a year) then relapsed for a week. At that point, I realized I needed some support. I don't go to meetings, but I do spend a lot of time on SR, have friends that I've met here that I talk to on the phone or e-mail every day, and have supportive friends f2f.

Hugs and prayers!

Amy

My daughter has told me the one thing being in jail for 2 months did for her that was huge as part of her recovery, was helped her to become humble. She lost the sense of entitlement and once that happened, she really moved forward both in her recovery and in her desire to really work a program and to give back to others struggling.
So I think that jail, like any other life event is what one makes it.
Welcome to SR - I hope you will keep reading and posting.

Jail was the beginning of my daughter's recovery. It put a tremendous fear in her that she does not want to go through again. It took three jail stints to sink in. When it did she got serious about it. She does not go to NA or AA but she is in counseling. She likes the one on one treatment. She has been clean for quite some time.

My oldest son attended AA and NA while in prison, and stayed sober during his incarceration. Then slipped again when he was released.

(For today he is sober, thank you God)

He also found Jesus when he was in prison, but when he was released, somewhere along the line.......he lost him.

her choice

ad will be released in 13 days after 6 months in jail. She is not going to go to a treatment house in or out. She claims she does not need it. She found a job through work release from jail and works 60-70 hrs per week, so she said she will keep her busy schedule and that her priority at this point. She did not attend all the meetings in jail as she would sign up for overtime. Meetings were not her interest, working the 12 hr. days and doing community serveice to shorten her sentence was number one. at one time she wanted to get into treatment, but I feel now that she wanted it only to get out of jail as she has the choice now but feels it is no longer needed, she feels she can do it on her own. Oh well, her choice
