Cool RAD 21 years old today

I woke up this morning and thanked God for the lives of those I love. At one point I honestly didn't think my daughter would make it to this day. Her addiction and recovery has taught me to truly appreciate each day I share with my family. Everything seems so much more precious.

She went back on subs after her oral surgery. They didn't do anything but remove the remaining metal from her jaw, but her receptors are so raw the pain was a little overwhelming for her. The roller coaster isn't done yet, either. All four wisdom teeth still have to come out, and she'll probably need more plastic surgery. Her honesty about it was very good and her nurse spent some time talking with her about the challenges. Her husband is on subs so the understanding was a wonderful gift.

She hung out at home for a while this evening, eating cupcakes and celebrating with us. Then she headed out and is visiting with old friends from before her addiction.

This has been a great day and we're all smiles.

Happy Birthday to your awesome daughter!

I think it's no small coincidence she had a nurse who is familiar with subs. Little miracles seem to be happening in your daughter's life, and I know it's because she's working so hard at her recovery. It may not seem like a miracle, but I remember what you both went through when she was first in the hospital.

I'm sorry she's not through with the surgeries yet, but I'm glad she has a little time, in between, to strengthen back up (and eat cupcakes!!).

Give her a hug for me...you both feel like family

Hugs and prayers!

Amy

Amy, when the nurse told me about her husband I wanted to hug her.

The best part of this day was looking in my daughter's eyes and seeing clarity. No tiny pupils and she was smiling, seemed genuinely happy. She has her moments when the scars bum her out but she works really hard at accepting it and moving on quickly.

Before she went out I had to be a mom, remind her she's come so far and overcome so much. She told me not to worry, she wasn't going to do anything to jeopardize that. I said great, because I'm not bailing you out if you do

Great day - for both of you. 21 years old and sober - that's a miracle.

I'm proud of the way she is walking through the medical stuff - and the pain management. She is an example of recovery to all of us.

Love in recovery,
Jody Hepler

Give her a birthday hug for me. It is great to see her doing the next right thing. My daughter has to have the wisdom teeth out but she is waiting until she has a bit more clean time to do it. Hugs, Marle

Thank you everyone, it's wonderful to be able to share with all of you.

I think this is what 'normal' is supposed to feel like and I'm savoring every moment of it
