Moments like this My RAD relapsed big time earlier this month and then.....stopped. Over the weekend the cell phone bill came in. She pays s $35 a month to be a part of our plan which includes 1500 text messages. She had gone over this by 2000 outbound messages, ( can you imagine) during her relapse and each one cost 10 cents. Her initial reaction was that the bill was wrong ( yeah sure) She got paid today and without any prompting took care of her obligation. I cherish moments like this, just for today. |
That must have hurt! What a great lesson for her :) |
I'm so happy for you and her that she got right back on track. |
That is wonderful that she stepped right up, I know your beaming inside. You have to wonder about these darn phones and texting. I wonder what will be next?? |
THANK YOU for the wonderful news. It gives me hope that 1 day even my son might accept responsibility. I don't know what it is with cell phones but my son also cannot keep his time down. He tells me he needs 2000 minutes & I think its absurd. I pray your daughter keeps doing well in her recovery. |
How about 3400 minutes of texting... that's right $340 phone bill... of course this didn't include the other 1500 or so messages that were in network! This from a person who never has even tried an alcohol or drugs... to my knowledge, but had the influence of an addicted Dad. See any signs of caution here.... duh! Unfortunately, the other wonderful signs were his unwillingness to accept responsibility, so guess what... the phone is gone! |
Its hrd to believe anybody could possibly use a phone that much. I know my son's bills were always high due to his using & lifestyle. |
Well, again when you live with Dad who lets you do whatever you want, whenever you want and who doesn't see the need to live in the "real" world... there is plenty of time to sit around on and text message others. Why connect for real? It is frightening... but other than taking the phone away... which I did... but I am sure Dad will get him another, I don't know what else to do. Here is an example of "can't control it."... Yes??? |
I am really glad you wrote this thread..Im glad she took responsibility for her actions...yes I can imagine it...but she did the right thing...I wish for you a wonderful day... |
I think this is a new way of communicating with these kids. My daughter also goes nuts on the phone, always dialing, always texting, and someelse is always texting back. I think it is absurd myself to pay so much to talk to or text to anyone when your phone bill is up in $300.00 mark???Hello....Maybe I am just not with it but to me it's BS. I told you all I took the last phone cause I paid for it and hammered it to death now I regret that cause I broke the contract aghhhhhhhhh $$$$$$$ And I know that will be her first item to purchase when she comes home and works. |
How great that your RA took responsibility for the phone bill!!!! Another step forward. My AH had to have a phone for work-then the phone bills kept going up and up. He never paid them with his money-I paid them. I called the company and told them he was an addict and I would not pay another dime. They closed his account immediately. He then got a prepaid phone... amazing how fast he used those minutes. Heck, I closed everything!!!!!!!-one advantage of living in a rural area and knowing everyone. The very best for your RA and continuing recovery. |

I recently messed up on my cell phone plan and got my bill, it was over $250.00, I didn't get it, was mad at first, but just took an extra job and cringed and paid it. Then the next month, I did the same thing, but it was $400.00..... I almost passed out... I've never gone that much over, so I found out I used to have tons of rollover minutes but I've used them all, so now all my yacking was costing me.. I'm a texter and a talker also, it is what it is, that is just how we talk. When I was using, I just wouldn't have dealt with it, no money, and I wouldn't have known how to deal with it. lol But I called the guy and fixed it, and now have unlimited minutes! :bday2 But anyway, it was nice to not have to get my phone shut off, call my Mom and tell her it was being shut off, which always happened when I was using. I was pretty happy about that, I bet your daughter was happy to have fixed her mistake too. It feels good.... :bday8 Good for her!!!! |
That is just super. It's great seeing our kids take care of themselves and being a responsible adult. I'm praying this continues for you~~and especially your daughter.. Smiles, Bonnie |
Wow a wonderful day! Congratulations to you both! |

I think it's terrific that she accepted her responsibility. That's one of those "action" things we always say to look for in recovery...and a very GOOD action:) Hugs and prayers! Amy |
I'm sitting here with my mouth wide open, how the heck can someone use the darn phone that often, I hate the phone, if you have something to say say it and be done with it. wow thats alot of communicating. |
I am with you Rahsue--- I hate the phone. Can't see someones face. Never really know how they are reacting. I don't even own a cell phone. CAUSE I NEVER GET TO LEAVE THE HOUSE. LOL |
