For the Grandmas Raising Grandkids
For the Grandmas Raising Grandkids
I watched a television show on the weekend about grandmothers raising the children of their addicted children and the limited resources available to them. Many cannot afford the expense at a time in their life when they are also trying to finance their own retirement. Many have health issues that make this loving task so difficult.
The laws vary from state to state, province to province and even municipality to municipality, but I urge you each to get involved, writing your local politicians and childrens' aid societies and encourage them to at least treat you the same as they would foster parents, with assistance you so badly need.
My heart and prayers go out for each of you and for the children who are so very blessed to have someone like you to be their voice and to give them love and care to keep them safe from the chaos of addiction.
My prayers also go out for your addicted children, who have succumbed to a disease so powerful that it takes away those who need them most, their children.
God bless every one of you for doing what your heart leads you to do regardless of the cost, financially and physically, to yourselves. How brave and wonderful you are.
Huge Hugs of Respect and Gratitude

For Families Torn by Addiction
We pray, O God of hope,
for all families
whose lives are torn and disrupted
by drugs and alcohol.
Enable them to identify the illness.
Strengthen them to seek help.
Bless them with the power of your love,
which imparts transformation and wholeness
to those who trust in your name.
Grant that as they walk this tortured road,
they may journey together
and bound close in the bond of love.
Amen.

I believe grandparents should received the same benefits as foster parents, and that when necessary, should have subsidized day care available to them.
The children are receiving loving care from a family member. Foster parents could never give them as much.
Sometimes it is hard to find a voice, but when we do politicians begin to listen.

I work for a foster care program and some of these kids actually have their grandparents their for them and as a foster parent.... its called kinship foster parent. But in some cases I have seen they dont let the family member know that is an option if the grandparent or any family member offers to watch the kids without asking for money a lot of the times they wont volunteer that information. Its sad really sad.
My deepest gratitude to all the grandparents, friends and family members who pitch in to help with raising the children when a family is torn apaprt by addiction. Your unconditional love is amazing! Thank you!!
It is the greatest feeling in the world to know that you are giving those babies a sense of love and family...they need that! Hold your head up high and know that you are doing the right thing. They will appreciate this down the road. I am mother to my 4 1/2 yr. old grandson and he gives me great joy. I love that I can do this for him.
