please share our happiness

I just returned home from my RAS' out of town wedding. I'm so grateful that he has chosen a better path to follow and as the song says...that 'road' has led him back to land of the living, to his HP and a new family of his own.

Today he is experiencing some of the rewards of his recovery. It came to him via a deep brokenness and with extreme loss and pain. He is the first to say that it was worth what he had to endure (consequences) to finally turn things around.

The wedding was lovely, the family members and many friends were all so blessed to witness this event. I had a lovely vacation home to stay in and am just now beginning to unwind, reflect and realize just how truly grateful I feel.

Thanks to all who share here, for those who continue to struggle and those who have shown others how recovery works.

I love you all, I love my HP and I love this 'place' on the internet where we can come to gather and share experience, strength and HOPE. I love my son, my daughter-in-law...and her family as well. WE are blessed! Can you tell that I'm happy?

I'll share some of my realized hopes with you here. My son chose this song for his last dance of the evening with his new bride.

The broken road represents his life up to now, his addiction and all the misery related to it. He met his bride due to some circumstances that unfolded as he began to start a new life.

He met her doing the next right thing.

I'm guessing that he would also agree that the song is intended to symbolize the new life and restored relationship with God. That said, I wept as I saw his lips move while singing this song to her out on the dance floor.

Rascal Flatts - Bless the Broken Road

I set out on a narrow way, many years ago
Hoping I would find true love along the broken road
But I got lost a time or two
Wiped my brow and kept pushin' through
I couldn't see how every sign pointed straight to you

That every long lost dream led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart, they were like northern stars
Pointing me on my way, into your loving arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you

I think about the years I spent just passing through
I'd like to have the time I lost and give it back to you
But you just smile and take my hand
You've been there, you understand
It's all part of a grander plan, that is comin' true

That every long lost dream led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart, they were like northern stars
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you

Now I'm just rolling home, into my lovers arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you

(I wish I could play this on You Tube...but my pc can't play it. I'm sure many of you have already heard this song before)

Congratulations to the newly weds.

Thanks for sharing the happy news.
There is hope for all of us.

We also played that song for our first dance when I got married two years ago.
I hope you don't mind, but I added the link to youtube, in case this song is unknown to anyone.

I hope it works

YouTube - God Bless the Broken Road

Best Wishes to the happy couplel.

Thanks Colleen for putting the link, I was hoping that somebody might do that! I won't be able to listen but this way the others can be blessed.

When I begin to think of all the events over the years that led up to this, I'm a bit overcome with emotion. It's been one wild ride full of ups, downs, denial, dispair, false hope, terror, relief and thankfully many moments of serenity in the midst of chaos.

There is still a small part of me that has not fully processed the entire journey. I'm not living in the past by any means, but like the song, it was my own broken road that brought me to where _I_ am today.
Thanks to all for your wonderful replies.
